□ Korean Education Center (Director Kang Jeon-hoon) Signs MOU with GUSD to Promote Korean Language Education and Study Abroad in Korea
The Korean Education Center (KECLA) has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Glendale Unified School District (GUSD) to enhance Korean language education and study abroad opportunities in Korea. ㅇThis MOU aims to respect the value of diversity in school education and provide high-quality Korean language and cultural education within GUSD by fostering exchange programs among Korean and U.S. educators and exploring new areas of collaboration.
ㅇ In line with the Korean government’s Study in Korea 300K initiative, LAKEC, designated as a regional support center for study abroad programs in Korea, will collaborate with GUSD to promote Korean universities and support American students pursuing education in Korea.

□ Since 2006, LAKEC has partnered with GUSD, starting with its support for the establishment of the Korean language program at Crescenta Valley High School. Currently, six schools within GUSD offer a Korean Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program, with a total enrollment of 1,057 students across 34 classes.

ㅇ GUSD has developed a highly effective Korean immersion education model by integrating a systematic dual-language program from kindergarten through 12th grade with diverse Korean cultural experiences, ensuring continuous learning and high student satisfaction.

ㅇ Additionally, LA Korean Education Center and GUSD have strengthened their collaboration through initiatives such as the Special Korean Language and Culture Summer Program (2020–2022) and the Issuance of Korean Dual Language Program Certificates (2024), supporting students in achieving proficiency in Korean.

□ GUSD Superintendent Darneika Watson stated, "The Korean language and culture education program enriches the curriculum of our schools, making learning more diverse and fulfilling. I look forward to our partnership with the LA Korean Education Center evolving into a deeper collaboration between educators in Korea and the U.S."

□ Korean Education Center Director Kang Jeon-hoon remarked, "Building upon 20 years of trust and collaboration between LAKEC and GUSD, we have now entered a phase where our partnership is expanding to discover and implement new opportunities together. These exchange programs for students and educators will not only help GUSD students learn Korean but also foster their appreciation for Korea’s advanced education system, dynamic culture, and creative and thoughtful society."
